Privacy policy

Offnote is built so that there is very little to say here. Your notes stay on your PC, and the app makes three kinds of network request, each of which you can turn off.

Last updated 6 November 2026. Applies to Offnote 1.0 and this website.

In short

What stays on your PC

The three network requests

These are the only requests Offnote makes. Nothing else in the app talks to the internet.

RequestWhenWhat it sendsDefault
Currency rates At most once a day, while the switch is on A request for exchange rates to Coinbase's public rates service (api.coinbase.com). It contains nothing about you or your notes. Off
Update check Once a day, in the direct download only A request for offnote.cc/latest.json that carries Offnote's version number and nothing else. On
Licence activation Once, when you enter a licence key, and when you swap a PC in Settings Your licence key and this PC's name, sent to licence.offnote.cc, so that one licence covers two PCs. On

Turning them off

Open Settings › Privacy. Each request has its own switch, named as above. With currency rates off, math notes show "rates off" next to currency conversions instead of a result. With the update check off, you can still find new versions on the changelog. With licence activation off, or with no internet, your licence still works.

The Microsoft Store version never runs the update check; the Store handles updates.

What any request reveals

Like every connection on the internet, each request shows your IP address to the server that answers it. For currency rates that is Coinbase, under Coinbase's privacy policy. For the update check and activation it is our host, which keeps standard access logs (IP address, time, address requested) for a short time to keep the service running and to stop abuse. We don't use them to track anyone.

Things that are not Offnote's requests

Opening a link from a note opens it in your browser, which makes its own request. Send to OneNote hands the note to the OneNote app on your PC, if it is installed. Timer notifications are ordinary Windows notifications, shown by Windows.

What Offnote never does

Buying a licence

Licences are sold through our checkout provider, which acts as the merchant of record. It collects your payment details and billing address, works out sales tax or VAT, and handles refunds. We never see your card number. The checkout provider's own privacy policy applies to the checkout page.

From the checkout provider we receive your email address, your name if you gave one, your country, and what you bought and paid. We use them to create your licence, email it to you, process refunds and answer support questions, and we keep them for as long as the law requires for tax records.

Your licence is made from your email address, so the email address is part of the licence you paste into Offnote. It stays on your PC, in Windows Credential Manager.

Email

We send one email with your licence, and we reply when you write to us. We don't add you to a mailing list. When you email hello@offnote.cc, we keep the conversation so we can help you, and delete it if you ask.

This website

offnote.cc sets no cookies and runs no analytics, tracking pixels, third-party scripts or web fonts. The launch counter on the home page reads a small file from this same site. The host's access logs described above apply here too.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to hello@offnote.cc. We'll answer within 30 days. We may need to keep order records that tax law requires. Everything Offnote stores on your PC is yours to delete: uninstall the app and remove the folders listed above.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes and the changelog says so. A new network request would be listed here, with its own switch, before it ships.
